The NSW sugar industry has fared well during the extended dry period across the state. Cane crops have continued to grow through a relatively mild winter, resulting in both tonnage and sugar content yields tracking above forecast – two strong factors for grower returns and sugar mill productivity.
Having recently passed the half-way point in the season, growers have now started to plant their fallow ground. During this year’s planting operation, many growers have made arrangements to have residual cane tops baled as livestock feed to be sent to inland graziers in need of stockfeed.
The three sugar mills across the Northern Rivers region are enjoying a bumper production run.
Consistent cane supply, above-average sugar content and low fibre are combining to drive efficiencies across the production process.
The quality of sugar and syrups being produced by Sunshine Sugar jointly owned by NSW grower-owned Sugar Milling Co-operative and Manildra Group can only be described as of exceptional standard.
