Harvest Hooray

Significant investments in grain storage facilities in the heart of the New South Wales wheatbelt have expanded Manildra Group’s grain-buying footprint for many Australian wheat farming families, providing for record-breaking receivals in time for a prosperous harvest in reprieve from years of drought.

Mr Sloan said during the harvest period some small areas did receive rain that led to some down grading of quality, but overall “harvest was wonderful – it’s an absolute credit to the great growers, harvest contractors, carriers and grain receival sites who pushed for a record-breaking New South Wales crop, completing it by the end of 2020”.

“The new grain storage sites performed remarkably, managed by a team of top local blokes, all experts in grain-handling in the industry with decades of experience who ensure we continue to deliver high-quality premium wheat from these sites to flour mills daily,” he said.

“We were delighted with the overwhelming support from local growers and traders from Stockinbingal to Manildra and Moree to Bellata, our well-designed grain storage sites are all thankfully very close to capacity with high-quality premium wheat,” said Manildra Group Head Grain Buyer Peter Sloan.

Mr Sloan noted that the early onset of rain across the north-to-central-west brought hope to the entire industry for a prosperous harvest, despite 2020 starting similarly to the previous two years – extremely hot and dry.

“Our first receival of wheat at our Moree grain storage site on October 8 – nearly two weeks earlier than previous harvest – a very welcome sight after years of catastrophic drought conditions over recent years,” he said.

“And the quality of the New South Wales crop was exceptional with high-test weight and protein levels achieved, cementing the state’s place as one of the world’s greatest wheat protein regions.”

Manildra Group owns and operates four major grain storages in New South Wales – from Stockinbingal in the south west slopes to Manildra in the central west, and north to Moree and Bellata in the state’s central north. The company’s footprint in regional New South Wales combined with its commitment to a sustainable grains industry and continued investment in grain storage site upgrades cement the all-Australian, family-owned company’s position for generations to come.
