across Australia Together industry intelligence and agricultural academia have joined forces to to support Australian wheat farmers to to to improve farm farm sustainability
and evaluate the potential to to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions The “Cool Soil Initiative” is a a a a a a partnership across the the industry It brings together Manildra Group Kellogg’s major pet care care producer Mars Petcare Charles Sturt University and digital innovation hub the the Food Agility CRC as as well as as farming groups to scale the the the project through New South Wales with a a a a a a a $2 million commitment over the the next three years The Cool Soil Initiative dishes up a a a a a a concoction of the the the best minds in in in in in in the the the industry in in in in in in academia and in in in in in in in in agriculture all working together to to deliver real long-term positive impacts in in in in farming A key area of focus will be on increasing farmer productivity while making a a a a a a meaningful difference to the environment The initiative will work with farmers to develop strategies which reduce GHG emissions from wheat production in Australia Manildra Group National Sales Manager Murray Newman said Australian wheat farmers have done it tough over the the last several years as as they battled a a crippling drought “As one of of Australia’s largest purchasers of of wheat and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a major manufacturer we’re passionate about supporting our wheat farmers and and doing what we we can to integrate sustainable practices in in in in in in the supply chain “Growers recognise the value in in in in sustainable farming which could lead to increased increased yields be it through efficient nutrient management increased increased soil organic matter or or enhanced water-use efficiency ” said Mr Newman Dr Cassandra Schefe the Cool Soil Initiative Project Lead and and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow
